The Fall of Five Lorien Legacies Book 4 Pittacus Lore Books
I went on vacation to a beautiful island in the Caribbean but this book still managed to be one of the best things that I did on that trip and I went scuba diving! When I first started this book, I had just finished The Rise of Nine (which is an amazing book as well) and I couldn't wait to jump into the next book because I KNEW I would like it. But I didn't like it. I LOVED IT! It had the prefect mix of humor, tears, ANGER, and love. It felt so real I literally had a dream that I was number three and every night I read this from 9:00 to 12:00. I ALWAYS wanted to see what happened next, I just could NOT stop. I finished this book in three days, no joke. I was so sad when the book ended I didn't notice how far I've gotten. This book was definitely the highlight of my vacation.Tags : Amazon.com: The Fall of Five (Lorien Legacies, Book 4) (8601416281186): Pittacus Lore: Books,Pittacus Lore,The Fall of Five (Lorien Legacies, Book 4),HarperCollins,0061974617,Action & Adventure - General,Romance - General,Science Fiction - General,Extraterrestrial beings,Extraterrestrial beings;Fiction.,Friendship,Science fiction,Science fiction.,Children: Young Adult (Gr. 7-9),Fiction,Love & Romance,Science fiction (Children's Teenage),YOUNG ADULT FICTION,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Action & Adventure General,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Action & Adventure Survival Stories,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Romance Contemporary,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Romance General,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Science Fiction Alien Contact,YOUNG ADULT FICTION Science Fiction General,Young Adult FictionAction & Adventure - General,Young Adult FictionRomance - General
The Fall of Five Lorien Legacies Book 4 Pittacus Lore Books Reviews
I Am Number Four, the first book in the series, was a great book, which was made into a great movie, which nobody saw until it came out on DVD. The premise surrounding the books, written under the pseudonym Pittacus Lore, described as an Elder and historian from the planet Lorien, explores the idea that this is a non-fictional narrative, starring real characters, and actual events, as witnessed and recorded by the "author", a "wolf" of fiction, wrapped in non-fictional "sheepskin". Each book/narrative is told by a different Lorien character, identified by a number and a human alias, and like the humans the Loriens live amongst, each Lorien character has a different set of special "legacies", dormant until puberty, which come with their own personal blessings and burdens. Just like their human counterparts, Lorien teens also experience puberty, angst, peer pressure and the likes, but unlike human teens, Lorien teens also teleport, fly, turn into monsters and disappear.
Based on that brief history, the title of "The Fall of Five" means exactly that, the book is an introduction to character #5, and a continuation of the story which started in "I Am Number Four", and continued in "The Power of Six" and "The Rise of Nine". The problem with the series is not the books or the quality of the stories, the problem is the length of time between books, and the multiple "novellas" published in between books. Too much time between books in a series as complex and widespread as this one, causes the reader to lose track of the characters and past history, causing them to be lost at the beginning of the latest book available, all of which, when added together, equal lost interest. Furthermore, not only is there too much time between books in the series, but the author/ the publisher chose to fill the time between books by publishing small " novellas" which highlight and/or retell events in both prior books and books to come, which I've learned through experience, are really just another way to sell the same product twice, at $10-$15 dollars a piece, at the expense of the reader.
In summary, the series is great, buy the books, review them before purchasing a new one so you'll be able to follow the storyline, and don't both purchasing the novellas and the books, they're basically identical, with the novellas basically covering the same things as the books, just smaller portions.
I really liked this book, there is enough excitement for me and some interesting insight into the characters. I recently saw the movie I am Number Four and liked it, then found out there were several books out. I didn't do my research to realize that The Fall of Five is not the next in the series which explains why it felt like I missed a lot. There was enough back story in the book to fill me in on what I missed. Now I feel that the 2 books in the middle might not be as exciting but I'm going to read them anyway.
The one thing that really bothered me is how the author switches from one person narrating to another and it's not always clear when this happens so it sometimes took me a couple pages to figure out who was talking. This can be a very effective tool in telling different viewpoints of the same story but not so much in this case. For one thing all the narrators talked exactly the same. If you're going to have another person telling the story from their viewpoint they should have their own individual style of talking. Even though the story is being told by a different person it's being said in the same voice so it's not believable.
I like reading stories in the first person but if you're going to use that style then you need to make the switch in your head so each person has their own distinct voice. I don't understand why this wasn't more easily taken care of since the book is actually written by 2 people which makes me think 1 person comes up with the ideas and perhaps the plot while the other person actually does the writing.
I would have given the book 5 stars if the authors hadn't failed so miserably in their multi-first person narrative. The story is great, it's exciting to read science fiction that is new and different. I am anxious to read the next book which I'm assuming probably won't be out until sometime in the fall of 2014.

I got chills every time I read the back of the book. Those few lines that gave me the goosebumps. I almost cried, I laughed and I gasped to the point of almost passing out for that dizziness… You know that I love books that keep you at the edge of the chair, couch, bed, or to wherever you are reading on, and this book does that. One moment you are all excited, then you are crying, and then you are just relieved, and they again you are crushing the book and giving all you might to that character that is fighting his or her guts out. All books are like that.
