I don't like to give bad reviews but I can't help myself this time. The story line was more or less o.k. but what really got to me was the number of errors in grammar, verb tense and just plain typos. Didn't this author have anyone to proof read or edit this book? She really needs to go buy a good English grammar book. I am no expert so when I spot this stuff, it is glaringly obvious. And it happened over and over. It certainly detracted from the story and made the author look very inexperienced. I hope she will have someone to help her on her future books.

I totally enjoyed this book. I really did not want it to end at all. I felt that I was part of the story for awhile.
Ms Maarten writes a well written story that led me to search out read more of her stories. Sweet story!
Typos, proofreading errors, sentences that make no sense...those aren't even as bad as the story itself. Seriously??! Two adults wouldn't guess during their dinner together for hours that they share this history? She worries the next morning that he will feel betrayed...they don't even know each other!! Good lord. I make it halfway through and gave up in disgust at the ridiculousness. I don't know who wrote those other reviews but they are very misleading. Save your $3.99.
I read a lot! In romance I am always ready to suspend belief but I feel I should be paid for the minutes I wasted on this book. Conviction of innocent man with no evidence was absurd. Daughter jumping into bed with victim 's brother was absurd. Apologies to brother for convicting wrong man with no apology to wrongfully convicted man was awful. Dumb reunion with "now. I believe you " was awful. WORST BOOK I HAVE SKIMMED IN A LONG TIME! !!!!
Reading reviews this sounded like a great story. Once you start reading it the story line lacks sufficient detail for alot of the legal/law enforcement aspects and the main character was kinda cheesy. There are a couple very detailed sex scenes that seemed out of place in an otherwise sweet romance. It should have been a great book but instead was just okay. Something was lacking for me in the "believability" department.
This book had some very graphic sexual descriptions, so I'm surprised I find myself rating it four stars (it would have been five without them), but I really enjoyed the book as a whole. Even the explicit scenes weren't as repugnant as most such detailed ones are to me. The writer does have talent, although the novel contained some errors. There would be new dialogue paragraphs without quotation marks, compound sentences with no commas, abrupt point of view changes, and misuses like "accept" for "except." There were also a few curse words. Regardless of these problems, the story and characters were strong, it ended well, and I found myself liking it, even though I wish it could be cleaned up.
Second Chances is a captivating story about two people whose lives were torn apart by tragedy and what happens when the two are brought together by fate. Kadi Crowe grew up in horrible foster homes when her dad was sent to prison for the murder of Dain's sister. Dain spent his life harboring resentment and planning revenge on Kadi's father. Can these two overcome an impossible situation and find happiness? Read the book and find out, because you won't be disappointed.

This author writes beautifully. She does a wonderful job of portraying emotion as well as developing likeable characters that you will instantly connect with. Second Chances is the second novel by Valerie Maarten. She also wrote Gift of Joy which I now plan on picking up.
