After hearing my 18 month old ask for "Silly Sally" repeatedly at home, I finally ordered the book. It is a favorite at her daycare and now I know why. Silly Sally is a cute story where she meets different animals on her way into town. "On the way she met a pig, a silly pig who danced a jig." The rhyming words are fun for kids and the pictures are vibrant. At the end, there is a lot of tickling which makes the book super fun for little kids to participate in.

This board book is also well-made and I believe it will stand up to a toddler well. I recommend this book for fun story times and for early readers.

Preschoolers adore this book! The illustrations are as whimsical as the words. Third party seller Yaro Books got me a first edition quickly and in perfect condition. When I finished reading it to a preschool class, one girl said, "That was quick! Read it again!" And so we read it again. This classic belongs in my permanent collection.
I read it to my fifteen months old daughter and three years old son. Especially my daughter enjoys the bright colors, animals, the way Sally looks and she tries to repeat the rhymes. It also receives attention from my three years-old son, however he finds it a little girlie. I think it would also help pre-schoolers to start reading since the story is nice and simple and written in big fonts.
I give it five stars because it's not an exhausting reading for your little ones, in other words, the story and the pictures keep their attention on during the entire reading and you can have real fun with them while reading it aloud.
My daughter in law mentioned that Silly Sally was her favorite book growing up, so i was happy to find this for her to reminisce and share with my granddaughter. Glad to find a nice little board book for a great price. Super cute!
I'm tempted to give this book a terrible rating because I now go to bed singing "Silly Sally went to town walking backwards upside down....". The story's repetition makes it easy for my 2 year old to recite nearly the entire book by memory. Over. And over. And over again. Joy.
Really is a very cute little book. We love it. And I will gift it often so my momma friends can also partake in the joy of Silly Sally's adventures...again and again and again.
This story was in our first grade reading series when I was teaching. When I found it as a board book I knew my two year old granddaughter must have it. It was a terrific hit immediately. After the 30th read or more (😳) she still loves it. Audrey Wood's drawings are superb and colorful. We, of course , do the story then I use it for all sorts of vocabulary and phonics oral activities. For example, I'll say "Do you see something on the page that begins with the sound "sh". Be creative.
For whatever reason, this is one of those books that kids adore - even if the adults get tired of the very simple rhymes! It does not appear particularly sophisticated or overly clever. It is just sweet and catchy and the drawings are a bit wild and silly. But the kids can't get enough of it. I have now bought this book as a gift for about 10 kids age 2 upwards and it gets rave reviews every time.
My 3 year old distracted herself with a copy of this in a store, then asked me to read it once. Several days later in the car, she spontaneously recited that "Silly Sally went to town, walking backwards, upside down." Confirmed that they didn't have a copy at her preschool, so I bought the board book version on . Still an evening favorite after several weeks... and she looks for Neddy Buttercup appearing in the distance on earlier pages, hanging out in a field. Cute story and artwork.
